A giant step up from a mid-70’s rental or learner’s ski in terms of handling variable snow conditions yet still easy to master, the Atomic Maven 86 Skis get top marks as a choice for your first “real” ski. Light and nimble, the Maven 86 starts with a lightweight OMatic Core and adds a Dura Cap Sidewall for durability and performance.

Utilizing the latest generation of HRZN Tech Tip, Flow Profile delivers the ideal combination of camber, shovel taper, and tip rocker to create a ski that hooks up on hardpack as well as floats in fresh snow.

Core

OMatic Construction– The ultimate balance of stiffness and flex throughout the length of the ski. Precision milled poplar wood, lightweight fiberglass, and titanal layer or carbon insets. OMatic delivers effortless performance, balance, and stability from tip to tail.

Light Woodcore– Made from poplar wood, this core optimizes the ski’s weight without sacrificing any shock absorption or stability.

Sidewalls

Dura Cap Sidewall– Sidewall from base to topsheet for controlled power transmission and great edge grip. The rounded shape of the Dura Cap is a fantastic durability feature as it picks up fewer dents and dings.

Binding Compatibility

We recommend a brake width equal to or at most 15 mm wider than the ski waist width.

Terrain: All-Mountain All-MountainAll-mountain skis are designed to handle anything you throw at them including powder, ice, groomers, steeps, heavy snow, and everything in between, but they aren’t necessarily a master of any one terrain. If you’re only going to own one ski to do it all, this is what you want. All-mountain skis generally have what we call mid-fat waists that range from 80-110 mm.

Intermediate to advanced boots and bindings range from softer flexing freestyle options to stiffer choices built for stability at speed.

Rocker Type: Rocker/Camber/Rocker Rocker/Camber/RockerRocker/Camber/Rocker skis have the playfulness and float of a rockered ski as well as the added edge hold of a cambered ski. The contact points on skis with this profile are closer towards the middle of the ski than a fully cambered ski, but still not underfoot. The cambered midsection provides a longer effective edge on hardpack, increasing edge hold and stability, while the rockered tip and tail provide floatation in deeper snow and allow the ski to initiate and release from turns easier.

Turning Radius: Short Short< 16 m radius is best for carving.

Tail Type: Flat FlatThis is your traditional tail, designed to have edge contact all the way through the tail, and only designed for skiing forward. This is also preferred for alpine touring, as you can stick the tails of your skis in the snow.
