The Völkl Katana V-Werks Skis are still with us, even with the periodic reports of their demise, and that’s a good thing. In our view, this is one of the best deep snow touring options ever made, and one that won’t make you look silly when you decide to take a lap or two inside the gates. Stripped down in profile and weight but still packing a hefty performance punch, the Katana V-Werks comes to life mounted with a stout tech or hybrid binding.
Rocker Type
Full Rocker
Shape
3D.Ridge Carbon Shape– Central Woodcore Ridge with superslim wings to significantly reduce weight and swing weight and keep the stability where necessary. Combined with Full Carbon Jacket for Stability.
Core
Multilayer Woodcore Light– The combination of light beech and poplar results in a very durable woodcore composed of hard wood in the binding area and – due to its dedicated slots – lighter wood around.
Laminates
Full Carbon Jacket– Material layup for direct transmission and high reliability/stability at the lighest possible weight.
Sidewalls
Center Sidewall– Direct and strong power transmission with partial sidewalls in the center of the ski, combined with the superslim 3D.Ridge construction.
Base
P-Tex 4500 Base
Brushed Structure
Additional Features
ICE.OFF Topsheet– The unique surface structure and material composition reduces icing as the snow simply slides off the topsheet. This leads to a drastic reduction of weight in use, on average up to 20% to 30%. Lighter skis prevent fatigue, especially on long and steep uphill sections.
Smart Skin Clip– 100% secure and custom-fit connection of skin to ski. Requires Völkl skins.
Binding Compatibility
We recommend a brake width equal to or at most 15 mm wider than the ski waist width.
- Terrain: All-Mountain, Big Mountain, Alpine Touring All-MountainAll-mountain skis are designed to handle anything you throw at them including powder, ice, groomers, steeps, heavy snow, and everything in between, but they aren’t necessarily a master of any one terrain. If you’re only going to own one ski to do it all, this is what you want. All-mountain skis generally have what we call mid-fat waists that range from 80-110 mm. Big MountainBig mountain skis are designed for charging big lines with high speeds and big airs. These skis varry in width from wide, powder-oriented skis for skiing Alaska spines to narrower, mixed condition skis for ripping the beat up headwall at your local mountain. Skis in this category tend to be on the stiffer side, often with more rocker in the tip and less in the tail. Alpine TouringAlso known as backcountry skis, alpine touring (AT) skis are designed for going uphill as well as downhill. These skis are typically light for their width and many feature fittings that accept climbing skins. AT skis vary in width and weight, with the wider heavier versions usually used for winter/deep snow touring and the skinnier, lighter skis usually used for spring/summer/long distance touring.
